Last weekend was kinda fun

And I will use term weekend, because I have troubles remembering when exactly it happened. Not that I was drunk, I just don't need to keep in mind what day it is, so I do not.

So weekend. 

Probably Friday, during evening, we decided we should go out somewhere. We have not been for any live music for quite some time, so we decided we should go Sugar Joes. I've mentioned it in some of my previous posts. It's near KNU, and they usually have live music during weekends. We went with some Chinese folks.

So beer and stuff. And we met one professor from our college. He played few songs with his wife. Some of them were Irish, so it was really good.

I really can't say how Irish music sounds like, as I have probably never heard it except last weekend,  and I didn't know which songs were Irish, but once you hear the rhythm, you are pretty sure where it comes from.

We talked some more and he was like "Jan, do you wanna play?", and my friends like "Yea, go play something!" , so 1+1 went 2 and I went and played few songs too. Can't say if it was good or bad, I didn't hear how it sounded, but it was pretty much fun, I enjoyed it.

And more beer and going home. It was after 2AM, I guess, we went early because next morning we wanted to go for some beach.

And we went.

Jeez, so many Koreans have cellphones, but still finger on picture?

Anyway, the train company was so happy when we made this pic. One does not need a lot to be happy. And trains are another story... The worst train in Korea is much more better than IC trains in Slovakia (the most expensive ones).

Well...

So we wanted beach. I think Pohang beach, where Pohang is city name. Or Busan. Damn I don't know. Girls have been there before, but they did not remember how to get there, so we asked locals. By one bus (1200W) and taxi (3000W) we got to the nearest beach.

Something doesn't feel right, ha?

But still, few meters away people were enjoying themselves, swimming in sea (full of shit, as I see it) and so on.

I did not.

So fully optimistic we went to search for another beach. Some not-so-sure girls pointed us to some direction, but we were so tired, and it started to rain, so we finally ended up on some rest-place. It was actually not so bad.

 

We spent some time there, and went back to city centre. Where we finally found clean water!

And even good food!

Except it was some Christian place, so when I asked for beer, and then for soju (typical Korean alcohol), waitres was surprised, and I was beer-thirsty. Then we walked a bit at centre and went home.



This might sound like bad trip, but it was ineed a lot of fun. The one with a lot of inside jokes and stuff. So hard to write about.

Anyway....I am pretty sure there are some nice beaches somewhere, we just failed to find them.

New semester coming

As I mentioned before, Koreans got ~2 months of holidays after semester ends in December.

And damn, guess what, the March is coming and with it the end of holidays! Man, I will miss those times, when I needed to spend only about 4-6 hours a day at school. That's the holidays I like!

Yeah, kidding, BUT I hope I am not gonna spend that much more time at school during semester. And there is a hope!

As this program is relatively new, they are trying something different this time. The college picked 5 "best" students and will create mixed class of foreigners and Koreans.

So why "best"? Hard to say what was their criteria, as they picked me. I mean they did not picked the students with best results, so I guess I was picked because I am boy? We are suppose to study mechanical engineering, so that would make sense, ha? Student with best results was girl. Anyway, it doesn't ends here, we still got 3 girls and 2 boys. Weird.

We are to be moved to another campus.

So what's the deal? 

It's somewhere out of city, in the forest, no public transport (only school ones). We will get dorm for free, same with tuition (don't know if free or discounted). But we need to pay for breakfast and dinner, even we wont eat it. Yes, weird. And guess what, it's Korean food. I am dammed. Let's hope something will change (about food). Freaking toast bread and salami would do my breakfast - or at least better than paying for something I proly wont use. We are probably also getting change to take laptop for deposit. We will live with one Korean classmate. We should have shower in room. No kitchen. Boy and girl floors separated.

Yea. I am "special". 

What was funny about all of this was how they did the process of deciding and letting us know. Korean way, at least our experience, is that they always let you know kinda like "as late as possible". They told us who is gonna be in better group saying "Send me questions, and let me know your decision tomorrow morning." It was 5PM.

Yea, let's finished this with one more info, if anyone still reading: NO E-ZONE for me.

Damn, I am wrong, we will have, but only once a week.

If by any chance someone still reading, time for you to get drunk!

Winter Holidays [Gyeongju]

So do you know how school works in here?

No? Me neither, or better said I do not remember. Well, after we finished winter semester (around like 15th December?) there are school holidays.

For Koreans it should be like 2 months (+-). For us it was from Dec 21(?) till Jan 8. From 8th I start E-zone and later Korean classes. And proly also  English. Wanna English, don't wanna Korean.

As of now, they don't know what classes are we gonna have next semester, so neither us do. Uhm. 

Anyway, holidays. So far sleeping a lot and some travel: Seoul and other city spelled probably like Gyeongju.

So that other city: 

kinda like historical one, was capital at some era, or wasn't...

They got a bunch (or two) of that-hilly-thingy like the one on picture. Tombs of Kings or whatever they had in past. The most of them are hills like that one on pic, some of them available to enter somehow (don't know how because I was't interested in finding out how).

Seems like regular people use this as burial stuff too. (We found this one when walking around - okay - when walking to Sex museum, but we haven't entered, God screwed our empty wallets).

And I guess this is famous too, for some other reasons.

And they got some Buddha, surprisingly. You can't make pics of him, otherwise people would find out he is pretty much the same as any other ;]

And McDonald's that ain't finished. 

City is expensive, I think. They live from tourism, and they are gonna ask you for money to see any small statue or whatever. So in the end you spend some big (or at least not small) money on seeing stuff you are, or you are not interested in.

Even spa-house was expensive. We spend about 10000W for one night, comparing to like 5000 in Daegu.  Difference was one in Daegu has also spa, the one in other city had only sauna. And need to pay 1500 for pillow (that some Korean will steal from you as soon as you leave it for a moment). So we needed to argue about them. Only funny thing in spa-house was Korean family talking about my penis (father explaining to his son that foreigners are pretty much the same). No, I did not understand them, but I could see where are they pointing.

Otherwise people are nice: the bus driver, when stopped on red light, came to the back of the bus explaining us where to get of and so.

So go ahead and visit Gyeongju, you should be able to find something you are interested in, or at least this fancy trash bin on your way to Buddha ;]
